My own ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook review - 05 Jan 2012 23:04

ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook is the smallest member of the Zenbook family and Asus takes pride for releasing it on the market. The happy event took place in the late of September, the current year. Follow this ultrabook review and see if the ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook it’s worth it!

Inside the case

This gadget is powered by an ADATA XM11, from where the 128 GB Solid State Drive. The processor is a second generation one (Sandy Bridge) Intel Core i7, with a 1.8 GHz frequency, which is not bad. The battery lasts about 7 hours and the software (preloaded) is Windows 7 (which is much better than the Microsoft Office Starter 2010).

The Outside Looks

The ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook has an 11.6 inches screen and weighs 2.2 ibs. The keyboard is a chiclet one. It features a low key drop, so pressing a key only two mm down will be enough for it to register.

The touchpad is actually a multi touch click pad that sinks about one mm and triggers, this way, a click or a double one. It has a matt finish, so you don’t have to worry about your fingerprints being left on it.

The Connectivity

The ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook also provides two USB ports (2.0 and 3.0), as well as micro HDMI and a headphone jack. Some adapters are also included in the box, such as VGA and Ethernet, which is a good thing because it doesn’t cut the internet connection down to one possibility (Wi-Fi, which exists on this Asus ultrabook), nor the connection of the device to bigger screens.

The Display

The resolution of this 11.6 inches display is 1366 x 768 pixels, which the best up to now. The screen is a reflective or a glossy one (if you like better this term). The colors and contrasts are not amazing, but when adjusted in + brightness, the display comes alive. The best viewing angles are the 90 degrees ones (front and sideways).

How’s the competition doing?

Well, although I quite fancy this ultrabook, there still some unbeatable ultrabooks in some areas. For instance:
 The bigger brother of the ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook (which is the Ux31) is still the champion in transfer rates;
 The Samsung Series 9 provides a better display and viewing angles;
 The Toshiba Portege and the Lenovo IdeaPad have a longer battery life (with an hour extra);
 Lenovo Ideapad and Asus Zenbook Ux31, provide a clearer sound.
 The processor of the ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook (Intel Core i7) is larger and faster than MacBook’s Air of 11.6 inches (Intel Core i5), so a comparison with someone of its own size will give a hint of its performances.

Don’t get me wrong, the ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook is not to be under estimated, but the list shows just some improvements that are to be made, related to sound, speed (although this one is not bad, there is room for more, in my opinion) and viewing angles.

The Performance

I believe I have already stated that for its dimensions (11.6 inches display), is one of the best ultrabooks one can find on the market, at this moment. It has a huge processor for its tinny body and good looks.

One of the best things about it is that it also offers comfort while typing, so it’s a good thing that they’ve thought about the ergonomic aspect as well.

How about the money?

The cost of the ASUS Zenbook UX21 ultrabook is $925 and up, which is, at least in my opinion, one of the best deals, up to now. Hope you enjoyed the ultrabook review. - Comments: 0
